Mercedes-Benz is a big player in the mid-size luxury car market with their popular E-Class models. During its creation, the E stood for Einspritzung, the German word for fuel injection. The mentioning of this high performance feature was foreshadowing the E-Class success. The E-Class sedans include the E320 BLUETEC, the E550, the E63 AMG and the E350, which comes in a sport or luxury model. The wagons include the E350 4Matic and the E63 AMG Wagon. The year 2008 brings many new things to this strand of cars including new AMG sport packages for the E350 and E550 models and new technologies for the lucky drivers and passengers.

The refreshed sedans interiors comes with a variety of new wood trim options, a leather-trimmed steering wheel on all models, 10-way power-adjustable front seats and leather upholstery on the E550 and E63 AMG. The five occupant-capacity interior provides the passengers with a roomy and comfortable vessel to enjoy the ride in; the dual-zone climate control—the 4-zone on the upper two models—doesn’t hurt either.

In the E63 model, the 60/40-split back seatback folds down to provide extra cargo volume. Standard and optional instrumentation on the 2008 models include a DVD-based Navigation system, a conveniently placed instrument cluster, a trip computer, external weather condition monitor and the Maintenance System Plus, which displays the remaining distance until the next required maintenance service. On top of all of this, plus much more, the Harman/Kardon® LOGIC7® digital surround-system provides all occupants with an exceptional level of audible pleasure.

The 2008 E-Class also has a considerable list of safety features in its blueprint. The dual-stage frontal airbag system is complemented with side-impact and side curtain airbags for all rows of seating. The electronic stability system, radar-based adaptive cruise control system and the antilock brakes all further work into the safeguard E-Class provides. The Pre-Safe system senses potential accidents and takes precautionary measures for such a collision; this includes electrically tensioning the seat belts, adjusting seat position and even the closing of windows. The 2008 models also include a flashing adaptive brake light during unnatural braking—this warns other drivers of vehicle difficulties.

The power provided to the 2008 E-Class is beyond anyone’s expectations. The E320 BLUETEC sedan uses a 2,987-cc DOHC 24-valve VG engine that teams with a 7-speed automatic transmission that has a semi-manual shift mode. The E350 uses the same transmission, but with a 3.5-liter V6 engine; the same goes for the E550, but with a 382-horsepowered V8. The E65 AMG has a naturally powered 6.3-liter V8 engine that makes 507 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque; this also teams with the seven-speed transmission. The wagons use the same engines as their sedan counterparts.

All of this comfort, power and safety make it evident why the E-Class is so popular. The tight turning, especially the E65 AMG model, makes any curve conquered with ease. The quiet interior allows you to benefit from the audio system and the various other inner-conveniences that grace the E-Class cabins. The 2008 E-Class falls to nothing short of spectacular.
