2008 Mercedes Benz G Class Review, Pictures & Video

In the 1970s, the G-Class vehicles were originally a military vehicle. In 1979, a civilian version was released to the public. Using the same design scheme as the military version, it was only expected for the G-Glass to provide one of the best off-roaders around; the G-Class luxury SUV is also one of the few US vehicles to use three fully locking differentials. This is why this quality machine is in such high demand and returns in 2008 with updated interior features.
The first thing to note is the leather-outfitted seats, the hand-polished wooden trims on various surfaces and the heated leather and wood steering wheel. All of these materials combined exhume a sense of sophistication. The seven passengers comfortably sit in these seats with Dual-zone climate control and an electrostatic dust filter to provide the finest air quality. The 60/40-split-folding rear seat also folds down to give you some decision on the passenger/cargo ratio. The G-Glass comes with more standard equipment than you’ll know what to do with; this includes a DVD-Based Navigation system, a new instrument cluster, a review camera and telephone interface. Combine with rear-parking assistance, backing your SUV will be almost effortless. The harman/kardon® LOGIC7® digital surround-sound system gives you additional entertainment inside this spacious comfort vessel.
With pleasure comes protection. The dual-stage front airbags and side-impact airbags deploy on the affected side of the vehicle with appropriate force for the collision. A rollover sensor automatically deploys the ETDs and will deploy an addition window-curtain air bag if needed. Antilock brakes and an electronic stability system are also added onto the standard safety specs list. Furthermore, with protection comes power. The G500 gets a 5.0-liter V8 engine that can produce 292 horsepower. The G55 AMG model receives a supercharged 5.5-liter V8 that produces a whooping 469 horsepower and 516 pounds-feet of torque. The G500 uses an electronically controlled seven-speed automatic transmission that works with an AWD system. The AMG model uses a five-speed automatic transmission that also teams with the AWD system.
This power mammoth delivers the performance of a Hummer but in a smaller package. The power this vehicle can produce allows for excellent off-road performance; perfect for those adventurous explorers! The 2008 G-Class receives some excellent updates and is definitely worth a look if you’re interested in an outstanding off-road automobile.
