Lewis Hamilton – Black History Month
Celebrate Black History Month in Motor Sport with a look at the youngest and first Black F1 Grand Prix Champion – Lewis Hamilton. 2008′s F1 series started off with Ferrari, Renault and BMW as the favorites. But Hamilton’s McLaren Mercedes brought up the rear to emerge victorious.

Late last year, Lewis Hamilton, 23 and the first Black driver in the history of Grand Prix racing, drove into history at over 250 miles per hour by winning the World Driving Championship. The race, which is comparable to the Presidential Election in terms of motor sports, went underway at Interlagos track in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

This season was just Lewis Hamilton’s second during his F1 career. His team, along with others in the competition, spend between $100 million and $300 million annually on their vehicles and teams. According to The Huffington Post Onilne:
Equipped with an assured racing style that belied his years, it wasn’t long before Hamilton’s trophy cabinet was groaning under the weight of more karting titles. McLaren’s Ron Dennis was one of the first to notice his swift rise through the ranks and in 1998 he signed Hamilton to the team’s young driver program. Indeed, Dennis’s belief in Hamilton’s talents was such that the contract even included an option on the 13 year-old should he ever make it into Formula One racing.

Team McLaren Mercedes Lewis Hamilton is the 30th, and youngest, world champion.
