Mercedes 300SLR – Old and New

At the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show Mercedes showed off their classic 1955 300SLR next to the 2010 300SLR Concept. Hmm…one of these things is not like the other?

Mercedes-SLR

Mark Gillies of Car and Driver calls it a “bit of a disaster” – and we will admit as fans of automobiles old and new the new “nostalgia” trend in design is kinda lacking, ie: Ford Mustang, Dodge Challenger and now (maybe) the 300SLR. This particular 300SLR is based off McLaren’s SLR, which is a 510 lb hand-built supercharged, all-aluminum V8 engine. Mercedes 300SLR reportedly hits 0-60 mph in 3.6 seconds. What do you think?
