A duo of designers want to turn one Brooklyn lot into an urban oasis of farming. But that’s only a single goal of Domestic Construction.

The team of Maureen and Trish, which formed in college and has evolved into a friendship that engulfs their personal and professional lives, share a passion for interior design and sustainability.

Their latest idea comes from a little inspiration by an unlikely source: German auto maker Mercedes-Benz

Domestic Construction has transformed open warehouse spaces and empty plots throughout New York City into works of living art. A museum wedding, flooring alternatives, and organic loft design, DC has turned their passion for the reusable and beautiful into a noteworthy career path.

One of DC’s latest projects, “Mixed Tape – Cherry Chimes” (see the video here), has them joining forces with Mercedes-Benz in order to produce a memorable creation.

Mixing fabric and nick-nacks, an all encompassing structure is built around the spectator, producing a gorgeous compilation of sound and imagery. Find out more about Cherry Chimes and the inspiring work of Domestic Construction by clicking the links below:

The McLaren variants of Mercedes-Benz sports coupes are already some of the fastest vehicles on the road. But when you pump the engine up to 722 PS (translates to about 712 horsepower when measured in The States) you’ll knock the traffic on either side to the edge of a road.

Fitted with 21 inch alloy wheels and a matte-black paint scheme, the super car features a supercharged 5.5-liter V8, revised air intake, and stainless steel sports exhaust system.

The engine produces 722 PS or 712 HP and 656 lb-ft of torque. That enables the car to accelerate from 0-62 mph in 3.4 seconds, 0-186 mph in 24.5 seconds, and a limited top speed 214 mph, which means it could probably travel faster.

According to source WCF: “We have a leading position in the premium segment concerning alternative propulsion systems, and we will defend it,” said Daimler’s E-Drive and Future Mobility chief, Herbert Kohler, in an interview with Automotive News Europe.

The full hybrid lineup will include a C-Class hybrid and E-Class hybrid variants launched in Europe by 2013 and the S-Class plug-in hybrid (pictured here in concept form) debuting by 2014. U.S.-market launches for those models will follow six-months after their European debuts.

Kohler said that Daimler spends about half of its research and development budget of €4.1 billion ($5.6 billion) on alternative powertrain technologies.

Mercedes has unveiled the S 250 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY at the 2010 Paris Motor Show.

As the name suggests, the car is powered by a four-cylinder diesel engine which produces 201 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque.

While this sounds like a sign of the apocalypse, the S 250 accelerates from 0-60 mph in about 8 seconds and hits a top speed of 149 mph. More importantly, fuel consumption is 5.7 liters per 100 kilometers (41.2 mpg US) while CO2 emissions are 149 g/km.

To get those class leading figures, Mercedes outfitted the engine with twin-turbochargers and a start/stop system. Furthermore, engineers “extensively revised” the seven-speed automatic transmission (called the 7G-TRONIC PLUS) for improved efficiency.

It has been confirmed that luxury auto maker Mercedes is producing an all-electric SLS AMG roadster for 2013. Mercedes “E-Cell” promises to be the world’s first all-electric supercar; hoping to trump the Tesla Roadster in both price and performance.

Power for the E-Cell will be provided by four electric motors – all located at the rear of the vehicle . Each are capable of revving to 12,000 rpm. Power for the setup totals 525 horsepower and 649 lb-ft of torque, good enough for a zero-to-62 time of just 4 seconds.

For comparison, the gas-powered SLS can hit 62 from a standstill in 3.8 seconds. And unlike the standard SLS, the E-Cell employs a permanent all-wheel drive system.

According to the press release – “The car’s electric power will be provided by a set of lithium-ion batteries, located behind the cockpit and down the center tunnel. Made up of 324 lithium-ion polymer cells, the E-Cell’s batteries are capable of a 480 kW max load.”

Due to the addition of all-wheel drive, SLS’s front suspension had to be redesigned for E-Cell.It features an independent multilink suspension with pushrod damper struts. Standard SLS vehicles employ double wishbone axles.

The E-Cell’s cabin features a revised instrument cluster, new 25cm touch screen in the center stack and a three-button setup to engage Drive, Reverse and Drive.

First off, I’d like to say that I am not 100% sure of the Daily Mail’s (a UK newspaper) credentials. They are known for some wildly exaggerated stories. With that, we put our faith in these UK journalists in telling us the story of one Mercedes that almost went completely through the wall of a seven story tall building. For the record, “car park” is British for parking garage…

A motorist had a narrow escape after he reversed his car through a brick wall on the seventh floor of a multi-story car park. The 67-year-old driver got his foot stuck between the brake pedal and the accelerator as he tried to reverse into a spot in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

His white Mercedes C-class immediately shot backwards, picking up enough speed to smash through the external wall of the Bank of America multi-story.

Luckily for the un-named driver, the car stopped with its boot poking out into fresh air.

The vehicles parked directly beneath were not so lucky as bricks rained down, bashing roofs and smashing windscreens.

Stunned passers-by stopped to take pictures on their mobile phones as office workers happily downed tools to take in the sight.

Tulsa Police Department Corporal David Crow told radio station KRMG: ‘At about 1.50pm this afternoon we had a report of a car hitting the side of a building.

‘We didn’t know what that meant but when we got here we saw this Mercedes backed halfway out of a parking spot on the seventh floor of this parking garage.

‘The driver got his foot stuck under the accelerator and couldn’t get it unstuck.

‘He was coming across the back of the parking garage and he created a little bit of momentum because he went quite a distance and hit this wall and almost came all the way out.’

Bricks flew up to 80 feet on to a car park below, Cpl Crow added.
