Is this the rumored 2015 Mercedes-Benz MLC? Well, no. It’s the 2012 Mercedes M-Class, which is supposedly coming to production next year. But according to Automotive News Europe, “the German automaker will produce the model, which will carry the name MLC, at its US plant in Tuscaloosa, Alabama where the M-Class (ML-Class in North America) range is built.”

The vehicle, which has a code name of C166, is scheduled to make it to production by 2015. It will also be a direct competitor to the BMW X6.

According to World Car Fans, BMW’s X6 has been “a very successful variant of the X5 SUV model.” BMW sold 102,178 units of X5 in 2010, along with 46,404 X6 units. Seems like Mercedes-Benz has an uphill battle in front of them.

Mercedes has introduced a new line up of special protection automobiles for those heads of states worried about their well being. It’s actually the 80th Anniversary of this particular line of cars – and they are commemorating the event by introducing their S 600 Pullman Guard armored cars and limousines.

According to a MB Press Release; “This newest Pullman limousine is built on the basis of the S 600. It is powered by the 5.5-liter V12 with an output of 517 hp/380 kW and 830 Nm of torque. Engineered to a B6/B7 protection rating, its armor resists military-standard small-arms projectiles and provides protection against fragments from hand grenades and other explosive charges. Additional safety features include run-flat tires, a self-sealing fuel tank and a fire-extinguishing system.”

The Pullman Guard limousine is not your average Mercedes with some extra plating and glass slapped onto the frame. Everything from windows to doors and even the car’s undercarriage are specially made – integrating protection and armor into the body itself. This creates a “bubble of protection” around the passenger section. Bad news for the driver.

At least Mercedes Benz Pullman Guard is bringing back the old school car phone.
