However, the Mercedes A-Class, originally due out in the US by 2011, may be scrapped thanks to our wonderful economy. A two-door, tiny A-Class, along with a small B-class Coupe, were originally set to hit North America in 2009, then in 2010 and …well you get the picture.

With fuel prices still hovering in the $2.50 range having a compact Mercedes, reasonably prices, might be the perfect way to induct an entire new set of cost-conscious fans to the make. With models like Mini and Toyota’s Yaris (both regular and hybrid) still making a dent in US car sales, now would be the perfect time to introduce a “luxury” brand of tiny transports. Daimler CEO Dieter Zetsche recently reported that there are plans to release an electric Mercedes in 2010 that is based off the company’s Smart car. Many automakers have been recently stepping up there game in the electric car race as oil prices rise and new global warming reports surface daily. Automakers Nissan, GM and Subaru have all announced plans for releasing electric cars within the next few years. Unfortunately, many of these electric cars have a limited range. For city drivers these compact vehicles are an ideal solution for quietly maneuvering the congested city streets while eliminating harmful emissions.
